Mr. Valmiki Sharma qualified from the Welsh National School of Dentistry in 1998, having already gained an honours degree in Head & Neck Anatomy & Embryology from Cardiff university in 1995.
Having worked in both the hospital setting and general dental practice for three years, his interest in Head & Neck Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery led to him pursuing a hospital based career. His special interest in Oral Surgery and particularly Implant Dentistry was developed during several Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery posts as well as undertaking a period of research at the University of California- San Francisco.
Graduating in Medicine from Glasgow in 2001 and carrying out his surgical training at some of the most prestigious centres for surgical excellence in the Europe, he was awarded dual Fellowships to the Royal College of Surgeons of England picking up several awards and prizes along the way. He is also a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
He is currently Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at The Royal Free Hospital Foundation Trust, London where he is the Trauma Lead and is an Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Internationally, he is Head of Department for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at San Fernando General Hospital, Trinidad and Honorary Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at Princess Marina Hospital, Botswana.
His private practice principally features Facial Plastic Surgery, Advanced Oral Surgery, Dental Implantology and TMJ disorders.
Mr. Sharma is a clinical and academic tutor as well as a mentor for trainees at all levels from medical and dental students to those coming to their consultant level examinations. He has lectured extensively as well as organised and run courses both nationally & internationally.
He is also heavily engaged in academia having published several articles in high impact, peer reviewed journals.
He remains dedicated to the alleviation of Oral & Maxillofacial deformity and pathology especially in the developing world and to this end is actively setting up a program and service to address these issues in the West Indies.
